Jefferson Miller

Jefferson Miller is lead creative partner with Obelisk Media. He is co-director and cinematographer of Obelisk’s feature documentary 'The Monty Alexander Story'. The 'Kitty Owen Spence' documentary is the story of his legendary grandmother; and he is co-creator of 'High Hope: The Series', based upon elements of her story.

Jefferson Miller was born in New York and spent part of his early childhood in Jamaica. He is an award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer with over 25 years of production experience.  His extensive credits include ‘Twin Towers’, (Academy Award ® winning documentary), along with shooting feature projects for PBS, BBC, Grenada, Channel 4 London, Showtime, A&E, The Economist, Discovery, History, Smithsonian Channels and National Geographic.  

Known for his visual style, Miller’s recent productions include: ‘Confluence: Art, Science, Technology, Creativity’ (PBS 2024); ‘Planet Arts’ (2020-23 / ZDF Germany); ‘Heard It Through The Grapevine: The Norman Whitfield Story’ (Netflix); ‘Dad’s In Heaven With Nixon’ (Showtime); and ‘How To Live Forever’ (Wexler Films).

He also filmed: ‘Lockdown!’ and ‘Sola: Louisiana Water Stories’ (National Geographic); ‘John Ford/John Wayne’, ‘Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune’ (American Masters/PBS); ‘The Price of Health’, ‘Dreams of Tibet’, ‘Burden of Innocence’ (for Frontline/PBS); ‘From the Ashes: The Life and Times of Tick Hall’ with Dick Cavett (PBS); ‘Shirley Povich: A Sportswriter’s Legacy’ (ESPN); ‘The Real Story: Jurassic Park’ (Smithsonian); ‘Masters of the Universe’, ‘How the Universe Works’, ‘Strangest Weather On Earth’ (Discovery Channel/BBC).

His work has been showcased at the Sundance, Aspen, Hamptons and Woodstock film festivals, among others.

Jefferson Miller’s production experience has taken him throughout Jamaica, Myanmar, China, Japan, Korea, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico and much of the United States. He is a PADI Certified Scuba Diver, Single-Engine Rated Pilot, and Tae Kwon Do Black Belt.
