John Storyk initially rose to wide acclaim when, in his early ‘20s, he designed Jimi Hendrix’s groundbreaking Electric Lady Studios in New York City (still running to this day). Since then his signature work, which has consistently advanced the science of acoustical design and the use of new acoustical technologies, makes him arguably the most lauded architect/acoustic designer of his day.
John is a founding partner of Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG) with offices worldwide. As a globally renowned architect and acoustician, Storyk and his staff and partners in WSDG have provided architectural, acoustic design, and audio consultancy services for more than 3,000 facilities, including entertainment venues, houses of worship, and theaters. Major commissions range from New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, to sports stadiums in Brazil, to symphonic halls and performance venues in Vienna and Luzern, to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, the National Conservatory of Music in China, and Spotify’s content creation/podcast center on a full city block in DT Los Angeles (which opened in 2022, and was the 2023 NAMM/TEC Design Award winner).
Taylor Swift's album "Midnights" was recorded entirely in studios designed by Storyk. This includes her producer Jack Antonoff's private studio as well as Electric Lady Studios.
John can currently be seen on-screen in the 2024 PBS series "Confluence"; as well as the feature documentary "Electric Lady: A Jimi Hendrix Vision." He is an adjunct professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and lectures at numerous universities, including: Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute in Baltimore, NYU, University of Colorado, as well as conducting online master classes for global audiences.
As its longest serving Board member and former chair, John continues to be active with the Hudson Valley's iconic Walkway Over The Hudson, (a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and improving Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, and the environment of New York’s Hudson River Valley).
John is a world-class PADI certified diver, a licensed pilot, and music loving piano player. An avid baseball fan, he has visited every major league ballpark, and is catcher for his local softball team. He and his wife Beth Walters (a founding partner in WSDG) have homes in New York’s Hudson Valley, North Carolina, and Akumal, Mexico.
As a founding member of Obelisk Media, John enjoys his participation in the development of a slate of diverse projects for the screen.
